Determination of fexofenadine in Hank's balanced salt solution by high‐performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection: application to Caco‐2 cell permeability studies

The drug‐transporting proteins can affect the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodymanics of many drugs, resulting in an erratic and unpredictable pharmacological response. The Caco‐2 monolayer is routinely applied to investigate the carrier‐mediated transport of drugs. Therefore, the selection of a marker compound able to characterize the activity of such transporters is crucial. Fexofenadine (FEX), a P‐gp/OATP substrate, can be considered a suitable probe. However, in order to use be used as a marker compound, it is mandatory to develop an analytical method able to quantify this drug during the in vitro permeability assay. An HPLC method with ultraviolet detection was developed; the mobile phase consisted of phosphate buffer (pH 3.2) containing 10 m m of sodium octanosulphonate and acetonitrile (60:40) and the flow rate was set at 1.2 mL/min. Fexofenadine was eluted at 40°C, the retention time was about 4.6 min. The LOD and LOQ values were 1.9 and 6.2 ng/mL, respectively. Verapamil and ketoconazole, the most common P‐gp inhibitors, were eluted as distinct peaks of that corresponding to fexofenadine The method was successfully applied to quantify the amount of FEX transported across the Caco‐2 monolayer and could be an additional tool for those investigating the role of membrane transporters on drug absorption. On Coron's problem for the p-Laplacian

We prove that the critical problem for the p-Laplacian operator admits a nontrivial solution in annular shaped domains with sufficiently small inner hole. This extends Coron's result [4] to a class of quasilinear problems.     

Catalytic Adventures in Space and Time Using High Energy X-rays

Very high energy X-rays (ca. >40 keV) have long offered great promise in providing great insight into the inner workings of catalysts; insights that may complement the battery of techniques available to researchers in catalysis either in the laboratory or at more conventional X-ray wavelengths. This contribution aims to critically assess the diverse possibilities now available in the high energy domain as a result of the maturation of third generation synchrotron facilities and to look forward to the potential that forthcoming developments in synchrotron source technology may offer the world of catalysis in the near future.     

Sobolev spaces on Lie groups: Embedding theorems and algebra properties

Let G be a noncompact connected Lie group, denote with ρ a right Haar measure and choose a family of linearly independent left-invariant vector fields X on G satisfying Hörmander's condition. Let χ be a positive character of G and consider the measure ${\mu }_{\chi }$ whose density with respect to ρ is χ. In this paper, we introduce Sobolev spaces $L_{\alpha }^p({\mu }_{\chi })$ adapted to X and ${\mu }_{\chi }$ ($1<p<\infty$, $\alpha \ge 0$) and study embedding theorems and algebra properties of these spaces. As an application, we prove local well-posedness and regularity results of solutions of some nonlinear heat and Schrödinger equations on the group.
